B.R.E.A.S.TFriends is an initiative of B.R.E.A.S.T Roanoke to engage local businesses and employers in actively supporting breastfeeding families in our area. The project consists of training to area businesses such as restaurants, stores, schools, churches, public venues, etc. on breastfeeding laws and how to accept and support breastfeeding families. B.R.E.A.S.TFriends also seeks to train employers what employee rights are for pumping when returning to work and providing the best environment necessary for both the mom and the business to be successful. B.R.E.A.S.T. Roanoke feels that this initiative is necessary to help families reach their breastfeeding goals and foster successful and term breastfeeding rates in our area. We feel strongly that breastfeeding requires a village and a community to be successful and we want to identify the businesses that are making the difference by increasing awareness, acceptance, and ease of breastfeeding in public for the families of the Roanoke Valley. Participation in the B.R.E.A.S.TFriends initiative requires registration and annual fee for training and materials. Businesses and employers looking to take part can follow this link to register for our program:
Annual Fees are as follows: Businesses with 10 or less employees - $50 annually Businesses with 11-50 employees - $100 annually Businesses with 51+ employees - $150 annually
We are here to help businesses looking to create a breastfeeding friendly policy and become compliant with state and federal regulations for pumping accommodations. We offer consulting on development of pumping spaces and mothers programs to help your facility provide your employees what they need to meet their breastfeeding goals and to benefit you as a present and productive employee. When you register you will be contacted by a B.R.E.A.S.TFriends Ambassador to set up a training and commitment session with one or more leaders/managers of your business. You will be provided a packet of materials that gives you our contact information, outlines the breastfeeding protection under the law, includes information on the benefits of breastfeeding, provides strategies for supporting breastfeeding families and scenarios that may help you navigate patrons who do not understand the importance of accepting breastfeeding in public. For employers of breastfeeding employees we will also include information on what is required for you to provide pumping mothers, what space/environment your company should prepare for pumping mothers, and information on how supporting mothers as they come back to work greatly impacts your business in a positive way.
