Job Description: Community Engagement, Social Media, and Website Development Intern Organization:Breastfeeding Rights, Education, Advocacy, Support Team (B.R.E.A.S.T.-Roanoke) (https://www.breastroanoke.org/ ) Location: Roanoke, VA (Hybrid position with most of the work completed remotely and flexible work hours) Hours: 10 hours per week Duration: 3 months, ideally coinciding with the Spring 2025 semester Compensation: Unpaid, college credit possible About Us: B.R.E.A.S.T.-Roanoke is dedicated to promoting breastfeeding/chestfeeding as a natural, sustainable, and healthy choice for families. We work to support mothers/caregivers, educate communities, and advocate for breastfeeding-friendly policies. We are seeking a passionate and creative Community Engagement, Social Media, and Website Development Intern to join our team. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a student to develop professional skills, build meaningful connections, and contribute to our mission.
Key Responsibilities: Community Engagement (30%)
Assist in organizing community events, workshops, and outreach programs.
Contribute to the launching and running of B.R.E.A.S.T.’s Little Lactation Library, a lactation supplies closet created in partnership with CHIP of Roanoke Valley and hosted at CHIP’s offices.
Collaborate with the team to develop campaigns for volunteer recruitment.
Support partnerships with local organizations to expand advocacy and educational efforts.
Conduct outreach to breastfeeding families to share resources and gather feedback.
Assist with resource mapping and needs assessment in the community.
Social Media Management (30%)
Create and schedule engaging, educational, and mission-aligned content for platforms like Instagram, and Facebook.
Collaborate with the team to develop monthly social media campaigns aligned with organizational goals.
Track and report social media performance metrics using tools like Meta Insights or Hootsuite.
Website Development and Maintenance (30%)
Update and maintain the organization’s website to ensure accurate and current information.
Assist with enhancing website design and user experience for accessibility and engagement.
Upload new blog posts, event announcements, and resources as needed.
Troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues, collaborating with external developers if necessary.
Professional Development (10%)
Participate in regular check-ins and mentorship sessions to build competencies aligned with NACE Career Readiness Competencies, such as Communication, Teamwork, and Professionalism.
Attend webinars, workshops, or team meetings to strengthen understanding of nonprofit work and breastfeeding advocacy.

Experience or interest in social media management, website development, event planning, or communications.
Familiarity with website platforms (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace, or Wix) is a strong plus.
Strong communication skills.
Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
Curiosity, adaptability, willingness to learn, and a growth mindset.
Basic knowledge of Canva or similar digital design tools is beneficial.
Passion for breastfeeding advocacy, maternal and child health, or community service.
